Of course, the ultimate New York City walk is through Central Park, naturally lovely in any season and just one block away. Museums & Galleries
The Carlyle's Upper East Side locale, at Madison Avenue at 76th Street, places one near the Whitney and the Frick, as well as New York City's Museum Mile.

Frick Collection On 70th between Madison and Fifth Avenues. Gracious mansion featuring works by Degas, Rembrandt and other European masters.

The Whitney Museum of American Art On Madison Avenue at 75th Street. 20th-century American art is the highlight of this famous collection.

Museum Mile, on a lovely stretch of Fifth Avenue next to Central Park, is home to these institutions:

Metropolitan Museum of Art at 82nd Street. Extraordinary collection embraces art from all countries and eras.

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum at 89th Street. Works of 19th- and 20th-century artists, including Braque, Calder, Chagall, Klee, Miro, Picasso and Van Gogh, in a building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Jewish Museum at 92th Street. Within its distinctive Gothic structure are artifacts and artworks encompassing four thousand years of Jewish culture.

Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum at 91st Street. Housed in Andrew Carnegie's mansion, this Smithsonian museum exhibits decorative and design arts.

Museum of the City of New York More than 1.5 million artifacts tell the story about New York City.

In addition to art museums, the Upper East Side boasts a variety of well-regarded galleries selling fine art and antiques. In addition to the Carlyle Galleries, directly opposite the hotel on Madison Avenue, nearby galleries include Allan Stone Gallery, Gagosian Gallery, Knoedler & Company, Salander-O'Reilly Galleries and Zwirner & Wirth.

Performing Arts
The Carlyle is located just one mile east of Lincoln Center performances and two miles northeast of Broadway shows.

Lincoln Center of the Performing Arts: On the Upper West Side. Twelve different resident arts companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet, New York Philharmonic and New York City Opera, make their home at Lincoln Center, America's first and foremost performing arts center.

Radio City Music Hall: On Sixth Avenue between 50th and 51st Street, classic Art Deco venue with a full calendar of live shows.

Walk out the doors of The Carlyle to Madison Avenue, where you will find a plethora of luxury retailers, exclusive boutiques and upscale galleries.

In nearby Midtown, visit larger department stores, such as Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale's.

Central Park
The Carlyle stands one block from Mid-Park, where landmarks include the Shakespeare Garden, Bethesda Terrace and the Marionette Theatre.
